My mom's 5 minute critique made me rethink my whole grocery list

She watched me toss a $4 bag of pre-shredded cheese and said, 'you're paying for the convenience of nothing, block cheese grates in 2 minutes.' Now I buy the $2.50 block and spend that extra minute on literally anything else, but I still miss the melty texture of pre-shredded sometimes. Anyone else get a family member's throwaway comment that actually stuck more than any recipe blog?
