Showerthought: I once swore by dry pasta only, but fresh from the deli counter is cheaper per serving when you factor in sauce.

It cooks faster and needs less stuff to taste good, so my wallet and my stomach are happy, lol.

That math never really checked out for me. Dried stuff lasts forever in the pantry, so you can buy huge bags on sale. A box of penne stretches further because it soaks up sauce better. That fresh pasta often needs a rich cream or butter sauce just to work, which adds cost right back. The time saving is real, but the cost per meal feels higher.

You know how my buddy Mark decided to go all-in on fresh pasta last month? He was sure it would save time after work. But then he kept having to buy cream or fancy cheese to make it taste right, stuff he never used otherwise. Like last week, he made fresh fettuccine and had to get heavy cream and parmesan, which cost him an extra ten bucks. He said his old box of dried penne soaked up jarred sauce just fine without all that. Now he's back to buying big bags of dried stuff on sale.
