Stopped at a diner outside Tulsa and saw the saddest 'budget meal' ever

I was driving through and grabbed lunch at this place off Route 66... they were serving canned soup heated up and calling it a soup of the day for $8. Has anyone else noticed diners just phoning it in with pre-made stuff instead of actually cooking from scratch?

Yeah and the worst part is they probably got that soup for like a buck a can at some bulk store. I stopped at a place in Missouri last month that served frozen chicken fingers as their "signature dinner plate." Makes you miss the days when diners actually had cooks in the back instead of just microwaves.

Did I ever tell you about the time I burned toast so badly the smoke alarm woke up my neighbor's dog?

Man, that dog must have some serious smoke detection skills.
