Talking to my neighbor killed my meal prep plan
I was bragging to my neighbor Bob about my weekly meal prep, all these containers of chicken and rice set for Sunday. He asked why I was eating the same sad thing for four days just to save $12 a week. Then he showed me his freezer stash of soup bases and sauce portions he makes when stuff goes on sale, like a $5 pork shoulder becomes 3 different meals. Honestly it hit different because he was right, I was spending more time and getting bored, not actually saving much. Anyone else ditch the full prep and just stockpile the cheap base ingredients instead?

Man, that line about "sad thing for four days" hit me right in the gut. I've been that guy with the same tupperware of chicken and rice staring back at me every Tuesday, wondering why I hate my own cooking. Bob sounds like a genius though, I never thought about freezing soup bases or sauce portions when stuff goes on sale. I mean, my version of meal prep is just buying a family pack of ground beef and pretending I'll use it all before it turns gray. Probably should admit I'm not saving much time or money either, just making myself miserable with all that repetition. Maybe I need to steal his idea and actually enjoy my leftovers for once.

Dumped a whole tray of lasagna in the snow once just to stop eating it for a week.
