Why does every cheap recipe site say a 15 oz can of beans costs $0.89
I checked three stores near me (Aldi, Walmart, Kroger) and the cheapest can of black beans was $1.19, so anyone building a meal plan off those old numbers is going to blow their budget by a few bucks a week. If you're feeding a family of four, that adds up. Where are you all finding cheap canned beans, or should I just switch to dried?
Is 30 cents a can really worth changing your whole meal plan over? If you're feeding four people and using maybe 4 cans a week, that's a little over a dollar extra. That's not nothing, but it's also not the budget killer you're making it out to be. Prices vary by region too, so the old numbers on those sites might have been fine where they were written. If you want to save real money, dried beans are way cheaper per serving, but they take time to soak and cook, so it's a tradeoff. I just buy whatever's on sale and stock up instead of chasing a magic number from some recipe blog.
