A coworker's 3 AM story made me rethink my whole flight booking process

Last week at the office, this guy from accounting starts telling me how he saved $340 on a trip to Denver by booking through the airline's foreign website with a VPN. He said he's done it like 12 times and never had an issue. It hit different because I've been throwing money away on the same US site for years, assuming that was the only way. Has anyone else tried this trick, and did your airline ever give you grief at check-in?

I saw a Reddit thread about this same hack a few months back and someone mentioned the airline can technically cancel your ticket if they catch it, but it rarely happens. That $340 savings is pretty tempting though, I might have to try it for my next flight to Chicago.
