Hostel worker told me to stop packing jeans. Changed my trip.

Was at a hostel in Barcelona last summer. The guy at the front desk saw my backpack. He laughed and said "youre gonna hate yourself walking up those stairs." He was right. I had three pairs of jeans and a heavy jacket. Swapped to two pairs of lightweight hiking pants and some quick dry shirts. Saved me like 8 pounds of weight. Made walking the whole city way easier. Anyone else get gear advice from hostel staff that actually worked?
