I finally stopped being cheap about hiking boots
Bought $40 boots from a discount store for a Grand Canyon trip. Blisters after 3 miles. Had to turn back. Spent $130 on real ones and did the whole South Rim without a problem. Has anyone else learned this the hard way?

Wore $20 sneakers from a grocery store on a day hike once. My feet looked like ground beef by mile two. Sometimes being cheap just costs you more in the end.

Read somewhere that people think buying cheap shoes saves money but really it just means you're paying for foot problems down the road. A buddy of mine spent years wearing those $15 clearance sneakers from big box stores and now he's got permanent arch issues from zero support. Ended up spending like 300 bucks on orthopedics and special insoles. Sometimes you gotta learn the hard way that your feet are worth more than a fast food meal.
