I tried the "hostel dorm bed" budget trick and got more sleep at a Motel 6

I spent 3 nights in a 8-bed dorm in Barcelona last month because everyone says it's the cheapest way to travel, but the snoring and 2 AM arrivals wrecked my trip. Ended up paying $45 a night for a Motel 6 outside the city center and slept like a rock for the rest of my stay. Has anyone else found that the budget dorms just aren't worth the savings for a light sleeper?

Wait, $45 a night for a Motel 6? That's almost as much as some hostels in my city. Those dorms are rough though, I got zero sleep in a 12-bed room in Rome last year. Some savings just aren't worth being a walking zombie the whole trip.
