My cousin's 'skip the hotel breakfast' advice backfired hard in Chicago

Last month my cousin swore I could save $12 a day by grabbing snacks from a 7-Eleven instead of paying for the hotel buffet. First morning I got a sad muffin and burnt coffee, ended up spending $9 on a real breakfast at a diner anyway. By day 3 I was eating bagels from the lobby since they were free and I was tired of wasting cash on garbage. The math only works if you actually like gas station food or plan ahead with groceries, neither of which I did. Anyone else get burned by a 'money saving' tip that only works for the person who suggested it?

Grab a muffin from the lobby and call it breakfast, that's the real play.
