Rant: My layover savings backfired big time

Got stranded at a closed airport overnight. Now I always check terminal hours before booking those cheap flights.

Last February in Denver, the baggage system just STOPPED at midnight. They made everyone from three red-eyes crowd around a single carousel. TWO HOURS just watching one lone suitcase go in circles. Now I cram everything into a carry-on, no matter what the airline says. That kind of delay steals your whole next day.

My Denver connection in 2022 did the same thing. I was a checked bag person until that night.

People act like a few extra hours in an airport is some life changing event. It's just being tired and a bit grumpy. Actual travel problems involve missed funerals or losing your passport. This is just a bad night's sleep and a boring story. We've all had way worse things happen on trips. Calling it "stealing your whole next day" sounds pretty soft.
