Serious question, a hostel desk guy in Krakow told me to book buses the day before and it cut my Poland trip by $40
I was standing at the front desk in Krakow last month asking about a bus to Zakopane and the guy just said to wait and book it the day before, not two weeks out. I thought he was messing with me but I tried it and the same route dropped from around $23 to $11. Did the same thing for the ride back and a hop to Wroclaw, and I came out about $40 ahead over one week. Turns out these regional bus lines dump unsold seats right at the end and the apps show it if you just wait. Anyone else have luck with last minute bus booking in Europe, or does it backfire in the summer?
Man, that Krakow desk guy sounds like he knew his stuff. Reminds me of when I waited till the last second for a bus in Portugal and scored a seat for like 6 euros, but then in July I tried the same trick in Italy and everything was sold out so I had to pay triple for a train. Summer is a total gamble with this stuff.
