Switched to hostels with kitchen access and cut my food costs by $200 in two weeks

I spent a month traveling through Portugal last summer and noticed a huge difference between my first two weeks and the last two. First half I ate out for every meal and blew through $50 a day on food alone. Then I started booking hostels with a shared kitchen and made simple stuff like pasta and sandwiches. My daily food cost dropped to about $15 and I ate way healthier. Anyone else notice how much money you save just by having a stove and fridge?

Oh man, this is so true. I did the same thing in Spain and it was night and day difference on my wallet. Saved enough to splurge on one really nice dinner at the end.
