Swore hostel dorms were a nightmare until I spent 3 nights at one in Prague last fall

I always thought you'd get zero sleep with snorers and people coming in at 3am, but the 6-bed room I was in had quiet hours enforced and everyone actually respected them. Has anyone else had a hostel experience that totally flipped your opinion on something?

oh totally, my friend katie had basically sworn off hostels after a bad experience in amsterdam, but then she ended up at one in rural japan that was basically a converted ryokan with like four bunks and a shared onsen. she said it was the most peaceful sleep she'd ever had, like zero party vibe, just old ladies shuffling around.

Now THAT is my kind of hostel. I had a similar wake-up call in a little place outside of Salzburg. Walked in expecting the usual chaos and it was just a quiet old house with a wood stove and a cat that claimed the top bunk. Best two nights of my trip.
