Warning: I compared booking flights through Google Flights vs. the airline's own site and got burned hard

Booked a round trip to Chicago through Google Flights for $280 but when I tried to pick my seats the airline claimed my ticket didn't exist lol. Has anyone else had this happen and ended up losing their reservation?

Called the airline right away and they fixed it on their end, just had to give them the confirmation number from Google Flights. Took like 15 minutes of hold time but got my seats sorted out.
