Appreciation post: Choosing the $38 slow cooker over the $120 instant pot

Back in 2019 I was standing in Target trying to decide between a fancy instant pot and a basic slow cooker. I went with the slow cooker because I only had $40 in my grocery budget left that week. Five years later that thing still works perfect for chili, pulled pork, and stews. Has anyone else picked the cheaper option and had it last way longer than expected?

Respectfully, I gotta push back a LITTLE here. I bought a $30 slow cooker back in 2018 and it worked fine for a couple years, then the ceramic insert cracked right down the middle while I was making a pot roast. Ended up with glass and meat juice all over the kitchen. Meanwhile my buddy's Instant Pot is still going strong since 2017 and he uses it three times a week. For me, the cheap stuff usually dies at the WORST possible time, like right before a big family dinner.

$30 slow cooker from 2018 sounds like you got exactly what you paid for honestly. I've had a $20 crock pot for like 6 years now and it's still going, no cracks or nothing. Different brands I guess, but cheap stuff isn't always doomed to fail.
