Found a weird trick with my grocery receipts that saved me $40 a month

I started taking a picture of my cart before checkout and comparing it to the final receipt on my phone. It caught so many overcharges, but my wife thinks it's too much work for the savings. Anyone else have a simple receipt check method?

Honestly, how is that too much work? I do the same thing but just keep the receipt. I go sit in my car after and check it against the bags before I drive off. It takes maybe two minutes and I find a wrong price almost every other trip. Those little mistakes really do add up over a month.

Every other trip" feels high, what store do you shop at?

Check the dates on your meat and dairy while you're at it. I started doing that after reading amymason's method and found expired stuff on the shelf way too often. It's not just about the price scanning wrong, it's about them trying to sell you old food. Catching a bad price is one thing, but finding a gallon of milk that expires tomorrow feels like a bigger scam. Makes you wonder what else they're hoping we just toss in the cart without looking.
