My grocery bill dropped $40 a week after I started shopping at the discount grocery outlet near my office

I was dropping like $120 every week at the regular supermarket and it was killing my budget. A coworker mentioned he goes to Grocery Outlet over on 5th street during his lunch break so I figured I'd give it a try. The first time I went I grabbed mostly canned stuff and frozen veggies and saved like $15 right away. After about a month of going there twice a week I'm down to $80 a week on groceries and the stuff tastes basically the same. Has anyone else found a specific store that just works better for their wallet?

$40 a week adds up to over $2,000 a year which is nothing to shrug at. Once you figure out which stores have the best deals on stuff you actually eat it becomes second nature. I kept a running list on my phone for the first few weeks to compare prices between the discount place and my old store. The trick is to stock up on non-perishables when they hit a good price and plan meals around what's on sale that week. Have you noticed any specific items that are way cheaper there versus the regular grocery store?

$40 a week is real money for sure, but is it really that big a deal unless you're barely scraping by? I mean, switching stores to save $40 is nice but it's not like you're retiring early off canned vegetables.

Ngl you're kinda glossing over the point though. $2,080 a year isn't "retirement money" but it's a new roof for a shed or a solid emergency fund cushion after a couple years. Some of us are just trying to make ends meet without stressing every month.
