Overheard a mom at school drop-off bragging about her $200 monthly grocery bill
I was standing near the pickup line last Tuesday and this mom was telling her friend she only spends $200 a month on groceries for a family of four. I nearly choked because I was dropping over $600 easily. She said her secret was buying dented cans and day-old bread from a discount grocery outlet. I went to the one in our town that weekend and saved $45 on my first trip alone. Has anyone else found those random discount places actually worth the extra stop?

Did you check the expiration dates on those dented cans though? I found a discount grocery near me and everything was still good, just ugly packaging or close to the sell-by date... actually that day-old bread is perfect for toast or breadcrumbs if you freeze it right away. I started combining that with a meal prep plan and cut my monthly bill from around $550 to about $350, so her $200 claim seems doable if you're really strict and don't mind canned veggies for most sides.
