Started tracking meals 90 days ago and my grocery bill dropped $47 a week.

I finally sat down and looked at what I was actually buying versus using up and the difference was just cutting out the random stuff that always went bad before I could eat it has anyone else noticed how much you save when you stop buying those extra things you think you'll need?

The wasted food thing is a killer. I had to get real with myself about what I actually eat in a week versus what I imagine I'll cook. Once I stopped buying fancy lettuce and specialty stuff that sounded good at the store, my bill dropped way more than I expected. It really is those few extra things each trip that add up and it was painful to admit how much of it I was just throwing out.

Ngl, this whole thing is just a symptom of how we're sold this idea of who we want to be at the grocery store instead of who we actually are. Like stores are designed to make you feel like you're a person who meal preps fancy grain bowls and makes artisanal salads every night, but in reality most of us are just trying to get through a Tuesday. The marketing around "aspirational eating" is so strong, you end up buying stuff that looks good in a recipe video but has zero chance of surviving in your fridge past day three. Once you accept that you're a person who eats the same five things on rotation and buy for that, you save so much money and stop feeling bad about yourself.
