Warning: That 'buy in bulk' advice almost cost me big on hardware cloth

I grabbed a 100 foot roll at the hardware store thinking I'd save money, but I didn't account for storing it in my damp garage - rusted through in 6 months and I only used 30 feet. Anyone else learn the hard way that bulk deals only work if you can actually keep the stuff in good shape?

Store it in a plastic bin with a lid and that rust never happens.

I mean, maybe in a dry climate it's fine, but if you live anywhere with humidity that plastic bin is just trapping moisture inside. I've seen tools come out of sealed bins with more rust than ones sitting on a pegboard in a garage. A little airflow actually helps keep things dry, at least in my experience.
