Bought into the minimalist journal hype and it Backfired hard

I tried doing those super clean minimal spreads with just black pen and no stickers for 3 months and I stopped journaling completely because it felt like a boring chore. Soon as I added washi tape and messy color coding I actually look forward to opening my notebook every morning. Has anyone else tried the "less is more" approach and ended up hating it?

Minimalism in general has this weird way of making people feel like they're failing if they need more stuff to be happy. It works great for some people but I've seen so many folks burn out on it because they treat it like a rulebook instead of a tool. At the end of the day if a messy notebook gets you writing then that's the better system for you.

Gotta ask @shane_williams though, where's the line between treating it like a tool vs. just using it as another excuse to beat yourself up? I've seen people swap one anxiety for another with this stuff.
