PSA: Stop making your monthly spreads so pretty they're useless

I see it all over Instagram and Pinterest. People spend hours on calligraphy and doodles. Then they run out of space for actual tasks by day 10. A $5 notebook is fine if you actually use it. Anyone else ditch the fancy layouts for something simpler?

That fancy stuff looks great online but it creates a problem nobody talks about. The pressure to make it perfect keeps people from starting at all. I know a few folks who bought expensive journals and nice pens but never wrote a single thing because they were afraid of messing up the first page. Meanwhile I've got a beat up spiral notebook on my dashboard filled with scribbled daily tasks and it works just fine. The real waste is all that money spent on supplies that end up in a drawer. A simple list written in ballpoint pen gets the job done every time.

Did you catch that piece on NPR about how perfectionism kills creativity? That's exactly what's happening with these fancy planners.
