Rant: The $35 fountain pen I bought for journaling made my handwriting worse

I dropped 35 bucks on a Pilot Metropolitan thinking it would level up my bullet journal spreads. But the nib is super scratchy on my Leuchtturm1917 paper, and now my letters look like a kid's scribble. I switched back to my old 50 cent Bic and everything smoothed out. Anyone else find that expensive pens don't always beat cheap ones for daily logs?

Do you think my Pilot nib needs breaking in more than my cheap shoes that gave me blisters? I've been writing with it for a week and it still feels like it's got its own personality to figure out.
