Why is everyone ignoring the index page for monthly logs?
I see so many spreads online where people dive straight into fancy collections and never touch their index after week one. That defeats the whole point of the system. I run a 5-year journal out of Knoxville and if I don't log every migration on the index by the 3rd of each month, I lose track of about 40% of my older entries. Has anyone else ditched the index entirely and still made it work, or is this just a trend that needs to stop?
I heard a podcast once where this woman kept a bullet journal for like eight years and she said the index was the only reason she could still find anything from year three onward. She admitted she slacked on it for a few months and basically lost a chunk of her life she could not go back and rebuild. Your 40% number sounds about right to me, once you stop logging the moves you are just writing pages with no map. The people doing fancy collections without an index are basically making art, not a system, and that is fine if that is what they want. But calling it the same thing as what you are doing in Knoxville seems wrong.
