Heads up on ignoring back pain from lifting sides of beef

I was lifting a side of beef last month (a big one, over 200 pounds) and felt a pop in my lower back. I brushed it off as just a muscle pull, but it turned into a herniated disc. Now I'm facing weeks of physical therapy and time off the floor (which sucks, by the way). Don't make my mistake, always lift with your legs and ask for help with heavy loads. Your health is worth the extra minute it takes to do it right.

Yeah, brushing it off is the worst move.

That 200 pound mark is where things get real sneaky. My buddy did something similar with a water heater and was in physical therapy for three months. Watching him go through it really shows how fast a simple pop changes everything. You're totally right about asking for help, it's never worth the risk.

The phrase "simple pop changes everything" is the whole story. It sounds like nothing in the moment, just a weird little click. But that's the exact second your next six months get decided. The body's warning system is brutally quiet for how loud the consequences are.
