Bought a $120 'waterproof' tent that soaked me in a light drizzle

I saw a ton of 4 star reviews for this tent on several sites and thought it was a safe bet for my camping trip last month. First night it rained and I woke up in a puddle, the seams just let water right through. Are cheap brands just gaming the review system or do people actually have better luck than me with these things?

Yeah but how much did you set it up right? I've seen people blame a tent for leaking when they pitched it in a low spot and water just pooled underneath or they didn't seal the rainfly right. Not saying cheap brands don't cut corners, but a light drizzle soaking through sounds more like a user error to me.

Bet you set it up in a hurry and didn't seam seal it first, most budget tents need that out of the box. A light drizzle shouldn't soak through a properly pitched tent unless the rainfly was flopping on the mesh or you skipped the ground tarp.
