Bought a $60 flashlight based on glowing reviews, died on my third hike in Phoenix

The beam was amazing for two trips, then on a dusk trail near South Mountain it flickered and went dark, so I spent 20 minutes digging for my phone light, and now I'm wondering if anyone else trusts those 5-star ratings less after a fail like this?
