Found out most "organic" labels on cleaning products mean nothing legally

I was reading an article from Consumer Reports last week and learned that unless a cleaner has the USDA seal, the word organic on the bottle is basically just marketing. Has anyone else looked into this and switched to a different brand?

My buddy Matt bought a whole case of "organic" laundry detergent from some fancy online store. Spent way too much money on it. Three weeks later his kid broke out in a rash and the ingredient list had the same sulfates you'd find in the cheap stuff. The company just said "natural fragrance blend" and dodged his refund requests. He scrubs his clothes with plain castile soap now and says he sleeps better at night.

Right, so the word "organic" on a bottle of all-purpose spray is about as binding as a promise from a used car salesman. Good to know my expensive "organic" lemon scent is just fancy advertising salad dressing for my countertops. I switched to using straight vinegar and baking soda for most stuff after that article made me feel like a chump. Smells like a pickle factory for a bit, but at least I know what's actually in the bottle.
