Left a 2 star review over a $12 coffee grinder, then dug up the seller's 400 other reviews
I used to just glance at the star rating and buy whatever, until a $12 grinder from a guy in Fresno broke in nine days and I finally read the one star reviews instead of the summary. Now I sort by lowest first and skip anything where the bad reviews all sound copy pasted, but does anyone else think a 4.6 average means nothing anymore?
Started doing the same thing after a $20 phone case cracked in a week. Now I read the 2 and 3 star reviews first, not just the 1 stars. The 1 stars are usually either fake or somebody mad about shipping, but the 2 and 3 stars tell you what actually went wrong. I look for the same complaint showing up over and over, like "battery dies fast" or "holes don't line up." If five people say the same thing, it's real. If every bad review is just "terrible product" with no detail, I skip the whole listing. The average score is pretty much useless on its own.
