My new coffee maker's thermal carafe shattered after just two weeks, sending hot coffee all over my kitchen floor.

I bought it based on hundreds of glowing reviews, but now I'm wondering if those were all from people who hadn't used it for more than a few days. Has anyone else had a similar issue with a supposedly 'durable' carafe?

Man, that's the worst. Did you ever have one of those glass French press pots? I had one that lasted for years, then one morning it just gave up. Made a sound like a gunshot and left a perfect circle of glass in the bottom of the sink. Coffee gear can be so solid until the exact moment it decides not to be.

Yeah but come on, it's a coffee pot. Not a car engine. The drama of a "gunshot" sound for a broken glass beaker is a bit much. It's a ten dollar piece of lab glass that finally met hot water wrong. Stuff breaks. You just buy another one.
