One star review on my Etsy shop told me my knit hats looked 'crooked and rushed' so I went back and measured every single stitch count for a month.

I realized they were right about the tension being uneven and now I block every hat on a $15 foam head before listing and my return rate dropped from 12% to zero.

Getting that first brutal review is rough but it pushed me to fix things too. I had a similar wake up call with my scarves a couple years back when someone said the edges curled too much. Spent a weekend blocking everything I had with wet towels and a cheap steamer from the thrift store. Turns out taking that extra 20 minutes per item made a huge difference in how they held shape. Now I never skip blocking even for simple stitches. Did you find the foam head works better than a flat blocking mat for hats?

Totally agree @rayy83, foam head beats flat mats for hats every time. Same thing happened to me, fixed my beanies overnight.
