Chose pocket screws over dowels on 14 maple drawers and I'm still thinking about it
Built a kitchen set last month for a couple in Boulder and I had to pick between pocket screws and dowels for all the drawer boxes. I went with pocket screws because they're faster and I've done it a hundred times, but the whole time I kept second guessing myself. First drawer went together fine, nice and square. By the tenth one I noticed a tiny bit of racking on a couple of the wider boxes, nothing huge but you can feel it if you twist them. Customer never would have caught it, but I knew. The doweled boxes I did on the last job were rock solid, just took me twice as long per box. I keep wondering if the time I saved was worth that little wobble. What do you all run for drawer boxes when the client wants them to last 20 years? Dowels, screws, or something else?
