I was deciding between a 1/4 inch or 1/2 inch roundover bit for the edges on a maple vanity and went with the 1/2 inch, which gave it a much softer, more premium feel that the client loved.

What's your go-to radius for softening casework edges without making it look too rounded?

Honestly I'm with you on the 1/2 inch for something like a vanity, it just feels nicer. My usual go-to is a 3/8 inch roundover for most casework. It takes off that sharp edge and gives a clean look without going full on rounded. I save the 1/4 inch for smaller stuff or when I want it to look more square. The 3/8 is that sweet spot where it still looks built in and not like furniture, you know? Glad your client liked it, that's always the best feeling.

See that's where I totally disagree about the 3/8 inch being the sweet spot. It's a weird middle ground that just looks like you were scared to pick a real style. If you want it to look built-in and clean, a tiny 1/8 or 1/4 inch roundover does the job without being seen. Going up to 3/8 inch starts to look like cheap furniture from a big box store, not custom work. And honestly, a full 1/2 inch on a vanity feels soft and fancy in a good way, it makes a statement. The 3/8 inch just says you couldn't decide.

Cheap furniture from a big box store" is exactly what I used to think too.
