My worst Monday in the shop started with a customer who measured her own cabinets in inches, and I quoted in feet
She signed off on a 6 foot wide hutch when her wall was 6 inches shy of that, so I spent the whole week rebuilding a $3,200 piece at my own cost, and now I make everyone send a photo with a tape measure in frame before I cut a single board.
Did she ever actually admit she gave you the wrong numbers, or did she just kind of shrug it off and expect the rebuild anyway? I ask because that part matters more than the tape measure photo rule, in my book. If a customer signs off on a spec, that's on them, not you, and eating $3,200 of your own time and money teaches her nothing. The photo rule is smart, don't get me wrong, but it only helps if you also have something in writing saying the measurements came from her. Otherwise the next one just sends a blurry pic and you're still the one holding the bag.
