Question about drawer slides: bottom mount vs side mount for heavy use kitchens?
Had a set of side mount slides fail on a client's kitchen island last week after only 3 years, the ball bearings just gave out under the weight of their pots and pans. I replaced them with bottom mounts but now I'm wondering if I just got lucky or if bottom mounts really are that much tougher for high load drawers.

Wait, only 3 years for side mounts in a heavy use kitchen? That's wild, man. I mean yeah bottom mounts usually have a higher weight rating, but 3 years is still way too fast for them to give out. You probably had a bad brand or they were just undersized for the load. But yeah, bottom mounts have that track right under the drawer so the weight sits better, plus they don't wobble side to side like side mounts do when they're loaded up. That's why I only spec bottom mounts for any kitchen drawer that's gonna see real action, it's just a sturdier design.
