Rant: A simple drawer slide install turned into a two-day project

I was putting in some undermount slides on a built-in last week, and the cabinet side walls were just a hair out of square. I figured I'd shim them and be done in an hour. The shims kept slipping, the holes wouldn't line up, and I had to re-drill the mounting plates three separate times. What should have been a quick job ended up taking me almost sixteen hours over two days. Has anyone else had a simple hardware install go sideways because of a tiny framing issue?

Honestly, sometimes that extra time is just part of the process. A tiny framing issue means you have to problem solve and do it right, not just fast. Look at @noah248's kitchen remodel, that probably had a dozen small problems that added up to a better final result. If every drawer slide went in perfectly in an hour, we'd all be out of a job. Those sixteen hours are what separates a hack job from a real built-in. You probably learned three new tricks dealing with those shims.

Tell me about it, my entire kitchen remodel started that way.
