Customer told me my self-leveling sealant was wrong for their fiberglass entry door

Been doing cable entry seals the same way for 5 years. Last Tuesday this old electrician watched me prep the conduit boot and said I was using the wrong stuff. He said self-leveling sealant drips off vertical fiberglass and leaves gaps. Switched to a non-sag polyurethane on his advice. Checked back yesterday and the seal is holding perfect. Anybody else been using the wrong sealant on certain door materials?

Wait, hold on - five years and nobody told you? That's wild. I had the exact same thing happen three years ago on a set of aluminum storm doors. Self-leveling just ran right off the vertical frame like syrup. I switched to a polyurethane caulk that was labeled for fiberglass and vinyl and it's been solid ever since. Honestly, those old timers might be grumpy but they know their stuff when it comes to materials.

Five years is nothing, try ten years of using self-leveling on everything before a commercial roofer set me straight on a fiberglass transom. He didn't even say anything, just handed me a tube of polyurethane and gave me a look. Went back the next day and that sealant stayed put like it was glued on, no drips at all. Makes you wonder how many other materials we've been getting wrong just because nobody stopped to call us out.
