Figured out why my drop ceiling runs kept failing inspection, and it was a $9 fix
I do a lot of commercial work in strip malls and I kept getting red tagged on my cable support spacing above drop ceilings. The code calls for J-hooks every 4 to 5 feet and I was measuring by eye, so some spans were hitting 6 feet and a couple were even worse. After the third failed inspection in two months I bought a 25 foot tape with a magnetic tip for $9 and started marking every 4 feet on the ceiling grid before I pulled a single run. Last week I did 1,200 feet of Cat6 in a dentist's office in under 6 hours and the inspector walked the whole thing without writing a single note. The magnetic tip lets me stick the tape to the grid without holding it, so marking goes way faster than you would think. Anybody else got a cheap tool that fixed a problem that was costing them real money?
