Old school punchdowns vs the new impact tools, I miss the feel

I learned on a 66 block back in 2013 with a manual punchdown tool at a Comcast hub in Dayton. Took me 2x as long but I could hear if a wire seated right. Now everyone hands me a spring loaded impact tool and I still double check every termination with the bed tester, has anyone else gone back to the old way after too many bad hits?
