Remember when we all thought those new fiber optic crimpers were a gimmick?

About five years back, the company rolled out these expensive Klein fiber crimp tools for the FTTH push. I figured my old coax tools were fine and it was just a cash grab. Then I got stuck on a job in a new subdivision where every splice had to be perfect. My boss made me use the new tool, and I got zero light loss on 15 consecutive connections. The old method would have taken twice as long and probably failed the meter test. I still have that tool in my van. Has anyone else had a piece of gear they hated at first that became essential?

Yeah, it's funny how the right tool makes you realize you were working twice as hard for worse results. Makes you wonder what else we're all stubborn about right now that'll be standard in a few years. Bet there's some new connector or tester out there we're all calling junk that we'll swear by later.

My old man refused to get a smartphone for years, called them a fad. Now he can't live without his maps and weather app. It's always the small quality of life things we fight hardest against, like smart thermostats or even tap to pay. What's the thing you still avoid using?

Your old man and my old coax tools could start a club for stubborn luddites, lol." "I swore up and down those fancy fiber strippers were overpriced junk until I had to re-terminate a bad splice in the rain and it actually worked the first time." "Guess the real enemy isn't the new tool, it's admitting you were wrong while holding something that makes your job easier.
