Skipping connector seals seemed fine until moisture ruined a setup.

Now I always take the extra minute to protect connections from the elements.

In marine environments, salt spray can corrode pins even with seals if not checked yearly. That slow damage adds up to total system failure way faster than plain moisture. So regular inspection becomes as key as the initial seal.

My buddy's sailboat in San Diego got wrecked by salt spray in three years. I always figured seals did the job, but your post made me realize regular checks are key.

Totally. That "slow damage adds up" is the real killer. Seals aren't magic. Salt creeps into the tiniest gap and just sits there, eating everything. You won't see it until a connection is fully green or just stops working. That yearly check isn't just looking, it's cleaning out the crust before it becomes a real problem. A sealed connector feels safe, but it's a false sense of security if you never open it up.
