That customer in Birmingham who watched me work for 4 hours without saying a word
I had this job back in March over off Highway 280 in Birmingham. Lady wanted a whole home cable setup with 6 new outlets. I get there at 8 AM and she just points to the basement then disappears. I'm drilling through floor joists, running lines, terminating everything by myself. Around noon she comes down with a glass of tea and says "you're the first installer who didn't try to upsell me." Then she went back upstairs. No small talk, no hovering, no questions. Just left me alone to do my job. Has anyone else had a customer who treated you like a pro instead of a salesman?

...and that's the thing, right? People who just let you work without all the pressure to sell them something extra... they're such a rare breed. She probably knew exactly what she wanted and didn't need the whole song and dance about the upgraded cable package or the fancy router. I've had that happen twice now where a customer just watched me for a bit and then left me alone... it actually makes me work faster and better because I'm not constantly looking over my shoulder or trying to figure out how to pitch them on something. That silence is golden when you're trying to focus on routing lines and making sure everything looks clean.

Yeah, @andrew646 nailed it. Best thing you can do is ask them one clear question upfront about where they want things routed and then just shut up and let them think. A quick "I'll get started and holler if I need you" usually buys you all the quiet you need to actually do the job right without the sales pitch breathing down your neck.
