TIL you can snap a drill bit off inside a stud bay with just the wrong angle

Was running a new coax drop in a finished basement yesterday. Second floor, tight crawl space, hot as hell. Hit a nail plate, no problem. But then my bit grabbed the edge of a joist at a bad angle and snapped clean off, stuck in the wood. Spent 45 minutes with a magnet and needle nose pliers trying to fish it out. Never got it. Ended up cutting a new access hole on the other side of the joist. Anyone else ever leave a bit behind in a wall?
