Vent: Got called to a job where someone had used electrical tape on coax connections

Three weeks ago I go to finish a new install in a condo downtown, and the whole line was shot. Someone had wrapped the barrel connectors with electrical tape to hold them together. Took me 45 minutes just to get the tape residue off the wall plate and find out the actual damage. The signal loss was brutal, maybe a 12 dB drop, and they were wondering why their TV would cut out during storms. Had to pull a new line from the junction box, which added another hour. Anyone else run into homeowners doing their own "fixes" that just make things worse?

Tape always makes a mess when people try to patch things instead of fixing them right.

12 dB drop from electrical tape on coax? @riley_coleman, I've seen some bad DIY jobs but that level of signal loss from tape residue alone is wild, your mileage may vary but that homeowner probably thought they saved a few bucks.
