Read an article saying most shutters are sealed units now, not meant to be touched. Makes sense with how cheap new bodies are compared to labor. Kind of a lost skill for most techs.

That sealed unit thing gets repeated a lot, but it's not the full story. Plenty of pros still shoot with older DSLRs or film cameras where a shutter clean is basic upkeep. The market for fixing a $3000 used body is huge. It's less about cheap new cameras and more about shops not wanting to train people on the fiddly work.

that's a solid point about the $3k used bodies but be real - how many of those are actually getting repaired versus just replaced? are you seeing a real uptick in demand for that kind of work or is it still pretty niche?
