Old repair habits were better for the earth
I started working on cameras forty years ago. We fixed everything that came in. Broken parts were kept for future jobs. Today, I see too many cameras tossed out. My shop now uses safe cleaners and recycles metal. I teach new repairers to value old components. This mindset helps reduce waste. It's a small step towards a cleaner world.

Seeing repair shops keep old parts is awesome, lol. I fixed a cassette player last year using bits from a junked boom box, and it works perfectly. @uma_west76 is right about new stuff being cheap, but once you see how reliable old parts can be, it clicks.

You began fixing cameras forty years back when keeping every part was normal. I'm stunned that so many cameras get tossed out now instead of repaired. Using safe cleaners and recycling metal is a smart way to cut waste. Is it tough to get new repairers to care about old parts when new stuff is so cheap?

My uncle's 1985 Nikon still works because he reused springs from broken watches.
