Rant: local camera store in Portland has a repair desk now, but nobody back there knows a leaf shutter from a focal plane
I stopped by a shop on Hawthorne in Portland two weeks ago because they had a sign out front saying they do repairs now. I brought in a Yashica Mat 124 that had a sticky shutter and the kid behind the counter looked at it like I handed him a toaster. He kept saying they send stuff out to a guy, and when I asked if that guy has a shutter tester he just shrugged. I get it, film is hot again and every store wants a piece of it, but hiring someone who can't do a basic CLA is rough. My guess is they are just shipping everything to one guy in another state and marking it up. I fixed the Yashica myself in about 40 minutes with a little lighter fluid and patience. Has anyone else seen these new repair counters pop up with zero actual techs behind them?
