TIL a Canon AE-1 shutter repair cost me $150 and I still couldn't get it to fire right

I should have just bought a replacement body for $80 off eBay instead of paying a shop in Portland to fix my broken shutter button, and now I'm stuck wondering if it's ever worth fixing old cameras when replacements are cheaper - has anyone else gotten burned by repair costs that didn't pay off?

...and that's exactly why I tell people to just buy a whole new body on eBay and call it a day. $80 for a working camera versus $150 for a maybe working one? Sounds like the shop took you for a ride, pal. At this point you could glue a shutter button back on with super glue and get the same results as that "repair". Might as well just use it as a paperweight now.

Did my buddy Jake actually get his camera back working after gluing it?
