Watched a hazy Canon FD 50mm go crystal clear after 20 minutes in a cheap ultrasonic cleaner from Harbor Freight
Picked up a beat up Canon FD 50mm f1.8 at a garage sale in Reno for $10 and the glass looked like someone breathed on it for a decade. I ran the lens group through my $80 ultrasonic cleaner with some diluted Simple Green for 20 minutes and the difference was night and day, the fog was gone and the coating actually looked shiny again. I know some guys say ultrasonic is too harsh for older coatings but I've done about 15 lenses this way now with zero issues. Has anyone else had a lens where ultrasonic made things worse, or am I just getting lucky?
